OIL SPILL MONITORING USING RADAR TECHNOLOGIES

Oil spill emergencies at sea with different length require quick responses to contingency actions in order to minimize social and environmental damages. In these cases, an operational system of oil detection at sea surface using radar images with near real time acquisition is essential for monitoring offshore regions of exploration and production of hydrocarbons. The combination of remote sensing and hydrodynamic modeling information is crucial for the detection of oil slicks that eventually may occur. The results are fundamental to society and government to take decisions for mitigation actions and to reduce the environmental impacts associated with the oil spill in the sea.
