OIL SEEPAGE SLICK IDENTIFICATION OVER OFFSHORE SEDIMENTARY BASIN
One of the main applications of GEOSPATIAL PETROLEUM corresponds to oil detection in ocean environments using radar (SAR - Synthetic Aperture Radar) to support petroleum system characterization. Oil seeps can be found in most of the hydrocarbon provinces located in coastal and oceanic regions. These features indicate the actual existence of processes of generation and migration of oil, facilitating the identification of active petroleum systems. Such information is critical to reduce geological risks in areas of exploration frontiers. The monitoring of oil seeps on the sea surface with orbital radar images has become increasingly a well-accepted technology in the market due to its low cost and the synoptic observation of large offshore areas. |
